Marjolein Rooduijn

Marjolein Rooduijn studied at the Scapino Dance Academy in Amsterdam. She continued her career in Israel and danced with the Israel Ballet in Tel Aviv and the Manhattan Ballet in New York. She danced in the Netherlands with several projects and had her own ballet school in The Hague. Back to Israel, Marjolein was the head of the dance department of Katzir High School in Rehovot for 20 years. Afterward, she taught in all the major schools in Israel. From 2016, after completing PBT teacher courses, Marjolein became the official Tutor for PBT in Israel until 2022. Since October 2022 she is working at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where she teaches ballet, pointe work, male coaching and PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique).

The barre is focused on work of the upper body, placement, and posture. Center work with challenging exercises and combinations with the emphasis on musicality, flow of movement, and technique. “One of the most important things is to encourage the dancers to reach their maximum potential and to pass on my passion for classical ballet.”

Contemporary - Juniors (12-15)

Çiğdem Polat

Çiğdem Polat - dancer, physical performer, theater maker and intuitive movement coach - graduated from the Amsterdam University of Arts Academy of Theater and Dance in Urban Contemporary Dance. She was seen in productions, such as Belgian Rules/Belgium Rules by Jan Fabre, SYZYGY by Jakop Ahlbom and Quake van Casper Vandeputte; a collaboration between Stichting DOX and Theater Utrecht. She touches on taboo breaking themes related to mental health and cultural conflicts. Her movement language is inspired by sign language, the animalistic, subconscious, authentic body.

Çiğdems class starts with a guided improvisation to warm-up and tune into your body, later developing towards the characteristics of Çiğdem's movement language. She will end the class with a phrase. This class focuses on expressing what makes you unique as a dancer and learning to trust your body. She uses tools such as Body & Mind awareness, Rhythm, Storytelling with the body and Authentic self expression.

Evan Schwarz

A native of Los Angeles, California, Evan received his education from The Juilliard School, in New York City. He has worked with various companies including Thang Dao Dance Company (USA), Tanzcompagnie Konzert Theater Bern (CH), National Dance Company Wales (UK), Grand Théâtre de Genève (CH) and Cie Opinion Public (BE) to name a few.  Evan has performed works by Pina Bausch, Ohad Naharin, Marcos Morau, Roy Assaf, Twyla Tharp, and Martha Graham, amongst others. Some of his achievements include the Martha Hill Prize and the YoungArts Scholarship, presented by the National Foundation of Advancements in the Arts. Evan is the current artistic director of the Henny Jurriëns Studio in Amsterdam.

Evan’s class follows the basic structure of a classical ballet class, but draws from visualizations and imagery to help tackle difficult movements. “I focus my exercises greatly on musicality, alignment as well as natural weight distribution and flow. My goal for the artists joining class is to leave with new information and tactics when approaching movement.”

Merel Lammers studied at the modern dance department of the Theaterschool  Amsterdam from 2006-2010.  She danced with Conny Janssen Danst, Project Sally, and Scapino Ballet (all in The Netherlands) before joining the Hofesh Shechter Company (UK) as a fulltime dancer in 2012 until 2019. There she toured internationally and taught numerous classes and workshops of Hofesh Shechter’s work. Currently, Merel is re-staging Hofesh Shechter’ repertoire & teaching classes at GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, Skånes, Academy of Theatre and Dance Amsterdam, Codarts, and others.

The class will consist of guided improvisations and exercises using imagery, following specific tasks to explore the possibilities of one’s own physicality, the joy of moving, connection to music and embodiment of a broad range of movement qualities.

Uri Eugenio is a dancer, teacher, coach and choreographer based in Amsterdam. He completed his studies at the Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg, The Netherlands. He has worked with dance companies and choreographers such as Scapino Ballet, LeineRoebana, David Middendorp and Nanine Linning. He performed in many cities across Europe, Asia and the United States. His choreographic work was seen at the Oerol Festival, Grachtenfestival, Oranjewoud Festival, Zingende Beelden and Klaterklanken Festival. Uri teaches at Amsterdam Dance Centre as well as abroad.

The class will focus on individuality, body awareness and awareness of the space. It starts with a series of ongoing movements that alternate between awakening the body as a whole and focusing on smaller details and articulations. It then shifts to a task-based improvisation, working with different initiation points of the body, while focusing on the amplitude and frequency of the movements. The aim is to sharpen the mind and the body.
